TARA actually exited the womb in mid-song. Piano, poetry, and songwriting began at the tender age of 4; drums quickly followed. After starring in the California Theatre Center's production of "Thumbelina," Tara began training in opera. She added jazz voice in high school, then continued studying and performing the diverse combination of music at Columbia University in New York.
Constitutionally impatient, Tara graduated with her BA in Economics barely 2 years later. She backpacked around the world for 5 months, "refilling the well", and finally returned to San Francisco to pursue a career in what she describes as "retro-soul" music. Her November 2010 EP, "Tara Priya", has received high praise, garnering airplay and charting in the Top 20 on stations such as KTUH, WCUR, WPPJ, KALX, WGTB, WKCR, WHAP, FM102X and Radio 98eins (Germany). Shortly after its release, "Tara Priya" gained a physical distribution deal in Japan.
Tara continues to perform in San Francisco, New York, and LA. In the past year, Tara showcased at The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville and The Friars Club in NYC, was 1 of 3 "Pop" finalists in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, was 1 of 25 Music City Songwriting Competition finalists, was invited to showcase in 2011's SXSW and the Canadian Music Fest, and took the stage in CMJ Music Marathon, the 2010 Miami Music Festival, the Long Beach American Christmas Festival, and the 2011 NAMM Show. Recently named one of The Deli Magazine's Top 10 "Best Emerging Artists of 2010", Tara is honored to have just won the 18th Annual Billboard Song Contest!
